FAQ's | Preparing for CAP | Preparatory Courses Offered | CAP Resources

Congratulations on your acceptance to the University of Central Florida! I would like to welcome you to UCF and to the College Achievement Program (CAP). CAP is a program for students with SAT or ACT scores below the state of Florida minimum that requires students to enroll in college preparatory courses. Currently the state minimums are SAT Math 440, Verbal 440, and ACT English 17, Reading 18, Math 19.

***During the first day of Orientation, you MUST attend the CAP overview session in the Student Union, Egmont Key 224 at 8:30am to obtain detailed information about the CAP program and about placement testing.***

At Orientation, you will have the opportunity to take a placement test to determine if you need preparatory courses. A $15.00 testing fee must be paid in the form of a check or money order for administration of the placement test on day one of Orientation. If your placement test score(s) indicate that a preparatory course is necessary, you are required to take the preparatory course(s) your first semester at UCF. If you test into a certain level of preparatory math you may be required to take a preparatory math course during the summer B semester.

Preparatory courses are offered on the UCF main campus, but taught by Valencia Community College (VCC) instructors. As a result, you will need to complete a VCC registration packet consisting of a VCC application, UCF transient student form, and a $35 application fee due by the second day of Orientation in the form of a credit card. These forms will be provided for you at Orientation.

As a CAP student, you will have the benefit of working with your academic advisor during Orientation and multiple times throughout your first year at UCF. Together with your academic advisor you will be able to build a schedule that will put you on the road to success. I am glad you chose the University of Central Florida and I look forward to meeting you at orientation!

All the best,

Nikki Nizynski
