College Achievement Program

Congratulations on your acceptance to the University of Central Florida! I am pleased that you have chosen this university to pursue your educational studies. Every freshmen student that enters UCF is assigned an academic advisor to assist them throughout their first year. Your advising office will be the Student Academic Resource Center and you will be provided with more detailed information concerning this office at Orientation.

At Orientation, you will have the opportunity to take the College Placement Test (CPT) to test out of needing preparatory courses. Day one of Orientation, you must attend the CAP overview session at 8:30am to obtain detailed information about CPT testing instructions. There is a $5.00 testing fee for taking the CPT that must be paid on day one with a check or money order only. The score(s) you earn on the CPT will determine your enrollment in English, Reading, or Math preparatory courses.

If your CPT score(s) indicate that a preparatory course is necessary, you are required to take the preparatory course(s) your first semester at UCF. Preparatory courses are offered on the UCF main campus, but taught by Valencia Community College (VCC). As a result you will need to complete a registration packet consisting of a VCC application, UCF transient student form and $25 application fee (due by the second day of Orientation), all of these forms will be given to you at Orientation.

As a CAP student, you will have the benefit of working individually with your academic advisor during schedule planning to help you build your schedule around any preparatory course(s). I am glad you chose the University of Central Florida and look forward to meeting you at Orientation!

Sincerely,

Ken Staack
Academic Advisor
